Hearth 248

There are places that do not announce themselves as sacred until later. Long before it had a name, it had a flame. It was the summer of 2008, in a suburb just south of Atlanta, Georgia.

Close-up of a matchstick igniting, with a bright yellow flame and a dark background.

A mother began gathering her two daughters at the hearth...

to teach them how to carry a flame of faith, courage and wisdom that would outlast the summer. They wrote lessons, memorized the Word of God, planned Christ-centered events and stood on the hearth to deliver mini devotionals to each other until they were ready to share with their friends at the end of the summer.
