The Fire that Interrupts
“...and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.” — Exodus 3:2
Exodus is the second book in the Bible and the word exodus literally means “to exit”. In chapter 3, before Moses exits or leaves the desert area his attention is requested by God through fire. Moses is then provided instructions that warrants honor demonstrated by removing his shoes in God’s presence for the ground was holy.
The burning bush is a fire that can interrupt without destroying. It’s a symbol of God’s majestic purity that draws attention and issues amazement as it reveals that some flames are meant to transform rather than consume.
